What happened to studying?

One unintended consequence of giving students the ability to evaluate their professors was that university professors now wanted good reviews and lost their courage to challenge students and, as a result, this has led to a university system where students no longer need to study. This has also reduced professor's authority in the class and given students the ability to strike back at teachers who uphold some grading standards. Student evaluations were originally a good idea, but one with terrible outcomes for United States college students.

Is there suffering upon this new earth? On our earth we can only love with suffering and through suffering. We cannot love otherwise, and we know of no other sort of love. I want suffering in order to love. (Dostoevsky)
